Finished: Stormtroopers - batch 3

The final batch (for now) of Stormtroopers received its bases and is now considered painted. The scheme did not change and is still available here.

Finished: B1 Droids - batch 3

Today I post the last batch of Droids for May. Here the only new colour was Loren Forest for the markings. This unit brings me above 200 painted models (to 204) in projects this year, but it also saw the end of my hobby spree - I forgot to take ONE paint to the country house and could not finish painting the three droids I took with me there (and a 90km trip one way to get just the paint was not something I wanted to do), so the spree ended after 187 consecutive days of painting at least one miniature each day. Honestly, I didn't think I could manage 10 days, so 187 is waaaay above my expectations! The next reset will be in the middle of June as I'm going abroad and I won't have the space for painting supplies in the luggage.

Finished: B1 Droids - batch 2

Another five droids. I decided not to preoccupy myself with Star Wars lore which dictates that droid commanders should have yellow markings and just gave them to the entire squad. It was basically made in the same way as the first one, with the only difference being the markings done in Averland Sunset before applying the wash.

Finished: Devaronian Commando

Today (11th of May) is my birthday, so I saved the model that needs a little more colours than my renditions of B1 droids and Stormtroopers. This sculpt is a Commando made by Darkfire Design and since I saw it I knew that I will want to paint it on this exact day. I'm really happy with how he turned out, even if apart from the skin and pants the colours were basically chosen randomly!

The Model

A great, characterful sculpt. It has exactly the right amount of detail to be fun to paint, but not tedious. I really recommend to get it and give it a try!

Finished: Stormtroopers

 

Another small batch of Star Wars miniatures is ready. This time 5 is one above the standard number of troopers in Legion, but there is an upgrade card that enables you to add one normal trooper (and one for the same slot that allows you to add AFAIR 4 more).

The Models

Again the sculpts were made by Darkfire Design. I love them, they come in both modular and almost assembled versions (for which you just have to glue on the head). During the assembling process I noticed that the sargeant of the unit is made to have his leg on something (I checked the printable bases and indeed there is one that has a box on it), so I had to improvised. I have some misprints from 2022, so I took a droid model, ripped it apart and put it on the base. I think it looks pretty cool that way!

The Scheme

1. White prime
2. Blinding Light mixed with Speedpaint Medium (2:1) for the white armour
3. Black Legion for the lenses, boots, gloves, weapons and the uniform under the armour
4. White to fix up any sploches of black
5. Dawnstone drybrush on the guns
6. Fire Giant Orange for the sargeants pauldron
7. Base: Lunar Desert + Dark Blue Tone + Tyrant Skull

Finished: B1 Droids

Today is "Revenge of the 5th". Even though I have a model of Maul, I did not paint it. Here we have some B1 battle droids instead.

The Models

Those are the 3d prints mentioned in April's summary. They came out splendidly and even though they look spindly I had no issues with support removal, not even one droid got damages (ABS-like resin for the win!). The set contains different poses of the droids and both fully assembled models and parts to assemble them on our own. I went the route of preassembled models.

The Scheme

I decided to follow the scheme devised by Sonic Sledgehammer Studios.The only original idea was the basing. I decided on Fire Land by AK, used Army Painters Sepia Wash, followed by Tyrant Skull and then painted the rims in Steel Legion Drab to fight with black rims hegemony. All in all, I really like the final effect!

Finished: Weather Shaman

 

The choice for today's model is actually a combination of a few factors: I wanted to clean some projects from my "I really want to paint this soonish" tray; I really like this miniature; I got really bored of using a Dustback Helamite to proxy for my Stormcaller and I believe this model will be a really good fit for that profile!

The Model

This beautiful sculpt is another one of Print Minis Erroish Tribe line. It printed without issues, even though my resin was not dialled in! It comprises of three parts: the mount, the saddle and the shaman herself. I highly recommend painting either everything separately or at least the mount and the saddle, with parts of the shaman as well, to make it easier to reach some of the elements.

The Scheme

I decided to basically mix the scheme for my Dustback Helamites and the Desert Sprinter. The only new colours here are Volupus Pink (Citadel) for the snout and interior of the mouth of the mount and Flesh Tearers Red (Citadel) for the hair of the shaman. The shaman herself was painted in the scheme chosen for my Ash Waste Nomads, with the addition of Guilliman Flesh (Citadel) for the skin.

Summary

I really, really love this model. It was a joy to paint, it printed without issue and I will proudly put the Weather Shaman on the table in the days to come!

Finished: Sand Sprinter and Erroish Beast Trainer

 

Another small project finished. I had those two models printed since either October or November last year, but recently I just felt the urge to finally slap some paint on them. The sculpts were created by the talented artists at Print Minis. They create a very wide range of miniatures suitable to use in gothic, sci-fi settings and games such as Space Weirdos, Grimdark Future: Firefight (especially as the Gangs of Eden), Xenos Rampant or, if you want a game from the currently biggest publisher: Necromunda.

The Miniatures

Those two minis come from the Sand Sprinters and Erroish Beast Trainer set. These particular Sprinter is a male, but there is also a female version of the bug available, as well as a version of the trainer kneeling near his companion and gently patting it, suitable for a diorama or an NPC element in a game.

The scuplts printed without issues and the support removal was a breeze. I was a little bit afraid of snapping the fiddly bits on the Sprinter, but all the claws survived  the process, even without using warm water.

The Sprinter's sculpt is quite simple in its design and it yields to speedpaint really well, it was a real joy to paint this particular miniature! The Trainer has a fair number of details, but it is well within the limits of what is fun to paint and it is definitely not overwhelming.

The Scheme

I decided to paint those minis as part of my Ash Waste Nomads tribe. This means that for the Trainer I used the exact same scheme as for the Nomads. The Sprinter is just three paints over a slapchop gradient: Plasmatic Bolt for the carapace, Bony Matter for the legs and soft underbelly and Ratling Grime for mandibles and claws.

Summary

This is a great set and I wholeheartedly recommend buying and printing it to anyone that wants to add to their collection of sci-fi post apocalyptic wastelands denizens!
