Hobby Summary: February 2025

February is the shortest month of the year, but I managed to upkeep my hobby spree (currently on day 105) and paint at least one simple miniature each day.

So, how do we look in terms statistics?

Painted (30)

  • 2 Night Goblin Spearmen from Battle for Skull Pass (WFB)
  • 12 Dwarf Warriors from Battle for Skull Pass (WFB)
  • 1 Dwarf Dragon Slayer from Battle for Skull Pass (WFB)
  • 1 Night Goblin Shaman from Battle for Skull Pass (WFB)
  • 10 Uruk-hai Warrior (MESBG)
  • 4 Dwarf Thunderers from Battle for Skull Pass (WFB)

This month I focused on the Battle for Skull Pass box and I think it might be a theme until I finish the contents of that set. Apart of that I painted another 10 Uruk-hai warriors and finished the last miniatures fo Isengard that I currently own.

Another month that my "Great Assembly Project" went quite well, I think. I managed to build whole two dual-army boxes and a lot of what was left in the Ashes of Faith box for Kill Team (as I assembled the Inquisition team almost immediately after getting it in 2023). Hopefully I can keep up the pace next month!

Bought (11)

  • Gitmob Army Set - 9 miniatures ( 1 x Droggz da Sunchompa, 6 x Snarlpack Cavalry, 2 x Sunsteala Wheelas)
  • Ambots - 2 miniatures
The ambots were actually ordered in December, but arrived yesterday. They are one of the christmas/name day gifts from my family. And the goblins on wolves box is a fomo box that I could not resist (if someone knows what were my first miniatures, they understand)

Unlocked Achievements:
  • More models painted than bought (30 vs 11)
  • Painted a model (WFB)
  • Painted a unit (WFB)
  • Painted a unit (MESBG)

Finished: Another batch of 10 Uruk-hai Warriors

Another batch of Uruk-hai Warriors got finished today. That means I have 30 normal uruk-hai painted right now, so I won't probably need to get any more of those. Those are also the last unpainted Isengard minis that I currently have! Nothing more to say as very similar models appeared here previously.

Finished: Dwarf Warriors from Battle of Skull Pass

Another portion of the Battle for Skull Pass box is finally complete. This 12 dwarf unit of warriors was to date my favourite squad to paint from that box, probably because I decided to have some variaty in the beard colours, so they seem more unique than the goblins. The scheme for them is basically the same as the one for the cannon crew, with one more beard colour: Snakebite Leather (Games Workshop). I really like the intense blue that I get with two coats of Magic Blue (Army Painter).

With this unit finished we also have oficially more painted models than in 2023!

Finished: Night Goblin Shaman from Battle for Skull Pass

Today's miniature is the second hero for the goblins' side of the set, namely the Night Goblin Shaman. The scheme is almost the same as for all the other Night Goblins, with the only alterations being Malignant Green (Army Painter) for the skin (as I decided the shamans will have lighter skin) and Frostheart (Games Workshop) for the mushrooms.

Although this is not my favourite goblin sculpt, it was enjoyable to paint (which is nice, as I have a second copy, which will be probably painted almost the same, with the only difference being the colour of the mushrooms).

Finished: Dwarf Dragon Slayer from Battle for Skull Pass

Today's finished model is the Dragon Slayer form the Battle for Skull Pass box. As all Slayers that didn't shave off their hair he paints it a vivid orange to show the other dwarves that he has no honor and seeks to regain it by dying an honorable death in combat with the biggest and meanest beast that he's able to find. From what I remember the Dragon Slayers are a few level above the Troll Slayers, which are the "basic troops" of dishonoured dwarves. This means that this hero character has been searching his death for quite some time and had faced many a terrible beast.

As for the paint scheme it is basically the same as the one for the crew of the Dwarven Cannon, with some steps ommited, as not all the elements are present (he's wearing only a belt, I had to paint naked dwarven buttcheeks). The only new paint here is Fire Giant Orange (Army Painter) used on the hair and beard.

Finished: First unit of Night Goblins Spearmen from Battle for Skull Pass

January was basically the month of Night Goblins. The last two were painted on Saturday and Sunday, but now here they are in all their greenskined, robed glory. They were painted in almost the same way as the previous two Night Goblin units, with the only difference being using Forest Sprite (Army Painter) for the skin. At some point I will probably repaint the skin of the other two units (oh boy, 40 models), but for now they will stay as they are.

This marks another finished unit form the Battle of Skullpass box. I have my fingers crossed that all the other models from that box and the accompanying terrain pieces will get some colours on them this year.

Hobby Summary: January 2025

If put against previous years, this January was quite a fruitful month in terms of hobbying, at least in the aspects that can be achieved on ones own (even though I do believe I should try the solo options of some of the wargames in my repertoire). Either way, lets proceed to the summary without further ado.

A small reminder: the statistics on the right contain a unit only if it fits entirely in the category. That means that starting a unit last year (like the Warriors of Minas-Tirith) and painting the last models this year would put the whole unit in the painted category. The summary below contains the "real time" state, though.

Painted (38)

  • 8 Warriors of Minas-Tirith (MESBG)
  • 1 Redfist (Modulorka)
  • 5 Ork Nobs (Wh40k)
  • 18 Night Goblin Spearmen from Battle for Skull Pass (WFB)
  • 1 Dwarven Cannon + 3 Crew from Battle for Skull Pass (WFB)
  • 1 Saruman (MESBG)
  • 1 Night Goblin Big Boss from Battle for Skull Pass (WFB)

As you can see, most of the things painted this month was from the Battle for Skull Pass starter set for WFB, totalling 23 models. 25 models were different variations of greenskins for three different systems. One new system appeared on the list, namely Modulorka. I have the stls for some of MrModulork's models and I really like them, so I suppose that sometimes a character model or a unit of some sort will be printed, painted and posted. We had also new WFB and MESBG factions appear: the dwarves for WFB and Minas-Tirith for MESBG. Hopefully we will se more in the following month. Painting Sarumans means that I now have painted all my Isengard hero characters and I have only 10 more uruk-hai warriors left to paint for  that faction in my collection. I do intend to get a box of scouts, some worgs and command squads for the warriors and scouts, but that'll happen in the future

Finished (27)

  • 1 Redfist (Modulorka)
  • 5 Ork Nobz (Wh40k)
  • 15 Night Goblin Spearmen from Battle for Skull Pass (WFB)
  • 1 Dwarven Cannon + 3 Crew from Battle for Skull Pass (WFB)
  • 1 Saruman (MESBG)
  • 1 Night Goblin Big Boss from battle for Skull Pass (WFB)

By finished I understand not only painted, but also based. This time I based the Night Goblins as I finished a row, so five a time to save a little bit of time later.

Printed (11)

  • 1 Broder Ironfist (Print Minis)
  • 1 Collossus Hauler (Print Minis)
  • 1 Fleshforged (Print Minis)
  • 1 Annointed (Trench Crusade)
  • 1 Artillery Witch (Trench Crusade)
  • 5 Heretic Troopers (Trench Crusade)
  • 1 GrimGuard Trooper (StationForge)

It may not seem that much, but my printer is 90 km from where I live and currently I get to print only over the weekends. The Collossus Hauler on it's own was a great deal of printing, as it took around 9 batches. As we can see, most of the printed stuff is either from Printed Minis or for Trench Crusade. My friends are planning to start a Trench Crusade campaign, so I printed out my starting roster and plan to print some additions shortly. The GrimGuard Trooper and Fleshforged are miniatures printed to test out colour schemes and the Collossus will be a Heavy Vehicle for my Necromunda gang (we houseruled the stupid thing that Nomads cannot have vehicles).

Assembled (111)

  • 16 Savage Orruks
  • 2 Savage Big Stabbas (sans base)
  • 10 Cultists from Dark Vengeance
  • 6 Dark Angels Space Marines from Dark Vengeance
  • 1 Librarian Turmiel from Dark Vengeance
  • 4 Deathwing Terminators from Dark Vengeance
  • 12 Bretonnia Peasant Archers
  • 10 Deadwalker Zombies
  • 7 Ulfenwatch
  • 6 Corpse Rats
  • 6 Bat Swarms
  • 1 Yndrasta, the Celestial Spear
  • 1 Lord Imperatant
  • 1 Gryph-hound
  • 1 Knight Vexilor with Banner of Apotheosis
  • 1 Knight Arcanum
  • 3 Annihilators
  • 10 Uruk-hai Warriors
  • 3 Praetors
  • 10 Vindictors
The great battle to assemble miniatures and put them in less boxes to await painting finally commenced. I finally finished assembling the last models form Dark Vengeance, Cursed City (well, I have a foam insert for the models, so I had to assemble them to be able to use it) and Dominion. I also assembled the Savage Orcs that I put on rectangle bases to paint for my Orcs and Goblins army, some Brettonians and the last ten Uruk-hai Warriors that are on my painting list immediately after the Dwarf Warriors following the Night Goblins that are currently in progress.
