Hobby Summary: May 2025

I didn't take one of the paints that I need to finish the bases of the last five Stormtroopers to the country house, so I'm just throwing the photo of the painted squad here as proof :). Finished: B1 Droids - batch 3

Today I post the last batch of Droids for May. Here the only new colour was Loren Forest for the markings. This unit brings me above 200 painted models (to 204) in projects this year, but it also saw the end of my hobby spree - I forgot to take ONE paint to the country house and could not finish painting the three droids I took with me there (and a 90km trip one way to get just the paint was not something I wanted to do), so the spree ended after 187 consecutive days of painting at least one miniature each day. Honestly, I didn't think I could manage 10 days, so 187 is waaaay above my expectations! The next reset will be in the middle of June as I'm going abroad and I won't have the space for painting supplies in the luggage.

Finished: B1 Droids - batch 2

Another five droids. I decided not to preoccupy myself with Star Wars lore which dictates that droid commanders should have yellow markings and just gave them to the entire squad. It was basically made in the same way as the first one, with the only difference being the markings done in Averland Sunset before applying the wash.

Finished: Devaronian Commando

Today (11th of May) is my birthday, so I saved the model that needs a little more colours than my renditions of B1 droids and Stormtroopers. This sculpt is a Commando made by Darkfire Design and since I saw it I knew that I will want to paint it on this exact day. I'm really happy with how he turned out, even if apart from the skin and pants the colours were basically chosen randomly!

The Model

A great, characterful sculpt. It has exactly the right amount of detail to be fun to paint, but not tedious. I really recommend to get it and give it a try!

The Scheme

  1. Slapchop underpainting
  2. Bloodmoon Red for the skin
  3. Ratling Grime for the horns
  4. Corax White for the teeth
  5. Gore-grunta Fur for the boots and gloves
  6. Gunner Camo for the pants
  7. Aggaros Dunes for the shirt
  8. Ghillie Dew for the vest
  9. Satchel Brown for the leather and webbing
  10. Black Legion for all the metal and plastic bits
  11. Dawnstone drybrush for the weapons
  12. Base: Dark Earth + Voodoo Shade + Tainted Garden drybrush + Rotten Field Paint Forge tuft

Finished: Stormtroopers

Another small batch of Star Wars miniatures is ready. This time 5 is one above the standard number of troopers in Legion, but there is an upgrade card that enables you to add one normal trooper (and one for the same slot that allows you to add AFAIR 4 more).

The Models

Again the sculpts were made by Darkfire Design. I love them, they come in both modular and almost assembled versions (for which you just have to glue on the head). During the assembling process I noticed that the sargeant of the unit is made to have his leg on something (I checked the printable bases and indeed there is one that has a box on it), so I had to improvised. I have some misprints from 2022, so I took a droid model, ripped it apart and put it on the base. I think it looks pretty cool that way!

The Scheme

  1. White prime
  2. Blinding Light mixed with Speedpaint Medium (2:1) for the white armour
  3. Black Legion for the lenses, boots, gloves, weapons and the uniform under the armour
  4. White to fix up any sploches of black
  5. Dawnstone drybrush on the guns
  6. Fire Giant Orange for the sargeants pauldron
  7. BaseLunar Desert + Dark Blue Tone + Tyrant Skull

Finished: B1 Droids

Today is "Revenge of the 5th". Even though I have a model of Maul, I did not paint it. Here we have some B1 battle droids instead.

The Models

Those are the 3d prints mentioned in April's summary. They came out splendidly and even though they look spindly I had no issues with support removal, not even one droid got damages (ABS-like resin for the win!). The set contains different poses of the droids and both fully assembled models and parts to assemble them on our own. I went the route of preassembled models.

The Scheme

I decided to follow the scheme devised by Sonic Sledgehammer Studios. The only original idea was the basing. I decided on Fire Land by AK, used Army Painters Sepia Wash, followed by Tyrant Skull and then painted the rims in Steel Legion Drab to fight with black rims hegemony. All in all, I really like the final effect!

Finished: 5 Heretic Troopers

This is the last post in the series showcasing my starting warband for Trench Crusade. Today you can see the most basic unit of the faction, the common soldiers of the Heretic Legions.

The Models

This kit is actually modular. There are 5 different body options, each weapon comes in a couple of variants, there is also an assortment of heads. The designs are simple, but in my opinion great. Painting them was fast and pleasurable and I can't wait until the campaign starts.

The Scheme

  1. Slapchop underpainting
  2. Occultist Cloak for the uniforms
  3. Skeleton Horde for the gasmasks
  4. Bony Matter for the wraps on the legs
  5. Guilliman Flesh for the fetus if present on the model
  6. Gore-Grunta Fur for the leather elements
  7. Dirt Spatter for the armour and melee weaponry
  8. Ryza Rust stipling on the elements covered in Dirt Spatter
  9. Iron Warriors drybrush on those elements
  10. Black Legion on the details that should be either metal or black
  11. Heavy Metal drybrush on the elements that are supposed to be metal and were covered in Black Legion

Finished: Anointed

The Heretic Legions warband series continues with the Annointed.

The Model

There are currently two sculpts for the Annointed. One wields an axe (and I will print this one at a later date) and the one that you can see in the picture above hoists a heavy flamethrower. It is a great sculpt on which I tested my "poor man's rust" effect.

The Scheme

  1. Slapchop underpainting
  2. Dirt Spatter for the armour
  3. Ryza Rust stipling on the armour
  4. Iron Warriors drybrush on the armour
  5. Occultist Cloak for the "skirt"
  6. Shamrock Green for the crest
  7. Flesh Tearers Red for the visible parts of flesh
  8. Abaddon Black drybrush  for the flesh
  9. Satchel Brown for the pouches
  10. Blood Angels Red for the canister
  11. Black Legion for the pipes and random bit hoisted on his back
  12. Tainted Gold for some of the metal elements
  13. Heavy Metal for the rest of the metal bits
  14. Grimdark Shadow for the metals

Finished: Artillery Witch

Another post in the Trench Crusade warband series contains the photo and scheme for t he Artillery Witch.

The Model

This model is gorgeous. I simply love the sculpt! It is my favourite model for the Heretic Legion, and the second in the entire game. It printed without issues.

The Scheme

  1. Slapchop underpainting
  2. Occultist Cloak for the clothes
  3. Shamrock Green for the arcane flame
  4. Heavy Metal for the bomb and the body of the Witch
  5. Emperor Gold for the symbols on the bomb
  6. AK Brass for the trim
  7. Targor Rageshade followed by Grimdark Shadow for the body of the witch
  8. Military Shade for the bomb
  9. Blinding Light for the embroidery
  10. Black Legion for the boots

Finished: Heretic Priest

In yesterday's summary I wrote about finally finishing my Trench Crusade Heretic Legions warband for the start of the campaign and I promised that the first days of May will bring us the photos of the miniatures and the schemes for them. We'll start with the leader of this merry band, the Heretic Priest!

The Model

It is a 3d print that I printed on my own. The model itself is great, has the right amount of details to take speedpaints well and be pleasurable if you want to use standard techniques, without being overdetailed and taxing.

The Scheme

  1. Slapchop
  2. Occultist Cloak for the "outer" robes
  3. Shamrock Green for the pentagram on his staff, the eyes on the decorative elements on his armour and on the "pipe" running around his waist
  4. Flesh Tearers Red for the “inner” robes and the higher part of his cap
  5. Black Legion for the rest of the cap and the wooden part of the box on his back
  6. Skeleton Horde for the demonic skull on his back
  7. Heavy Metal for most of the metal bits
  8. Tainted Gold for decorative elements
  9. Grimdark Shadow for the metals
