Hobby Summary: April 2026

Another reaaaaaaaly delayed summary. For this one I won't use most of the categories, to save space. So, in April I managed to paint 3 Goliaths for Necromunda from start to finish. I have also played one game of Necromunda and assembled 24 miniatures:

  • 1 Orrus (Hive Secundus)
  • 1 War Despot (Helsmiths of Hashut Army Set)
  • 1 Dominator Engine (Helsmiths of Hashut Army Set)
  • 11 Infernal Cohort (Helsmiths of Hashut Army Set)
  • 1 Tormentor Bombard (Helsmiths of Hashut Army Set)
  • 8 Prussian Warband
  • 1 Ambot

Hobby Summary: March 2026

This summary is so overdue it's not even funny, as I will probably publish the one for April tomorrow. Yet still March was a month where I finally finished a started project, so that's quite important (for me). Also, I have decided to drop the stats for printed miniatures. The reason for this is that I often get confused, as some prints are successful, other not, I put them in mixed baggies etc. So, for my own convenience I will remove the printed miniatures and vehicles from the sidebar. One other thing: I decided to change the "reward" for achieving the 120 models painted from a set of Victrix Vikings to a Viking Warband from Victrix for Pillage (fewer model count). And without further ado, let's see some statistics for March!

Models Painted

  • 7 Corpsegrinder Cults

Models Finished

  • 7 Corpsegrinder Cults

Assembled Miniatures

  • 4 Van Saar Tek Hunters (Hive Secundus)

Games Played

  • 3 Trench Crusade

Achievements Unlocked:

  • No new models bought
  • Achieved a Painting Goal
  • Painted a team (Necromunda)

Finished: Corpse Grinder Cult Gang

I received this set as a birthday gift a few years back, almost immediately built it, zenithal primed it and then just left it alone. And now my favourite gang (in terms of aesthetics, I cannot play them at all!) finally has some paint on it.

The Scheme:

  1. Black primer, Grey Seer zenithal, white drybrush
  2. Gunner Camo on the pants
  3. Gore-grunta Fur on the aprons, "cowls" and gloves
  4. Garaghak's Sewer on the leather straps
  5. Skeleton Horde on the bones and some of the wraps on the weapon handles
  6. Black Templar on the boots and cables
  7. Guilliman Flesh on the skin
  8. Reikland Fleshshade on the skin
  9. Leadbelcher on most metallic bits
  10. Screaming Bell on some of the metallic bits
  11. Bloodmoon Red on weapon casings, melee weapons of the Initiates and the masks of the Skinners
  12. Targor Rageshade on the metals
  13. Iron Hands Steel drybrush on the metals
  14. Ahriman Blue on the eyes of the masks
  15. Blood for the Blood God stippling on the teeth of the chain weaponry and the blades of the melee weapons

Hobby Summary: February 2026

I will not lie, thus far 2026 was not kind for my hobby time and probably because of that I've grown lax and stopped having the attitude "I'll paint whenever I can, even if it's only 15 minutes". I invested a lot of time into the exam retakes in February, but afterwards it was mostly just not being able to kindle up the fire to actually sit down and paint. Maybe after painting so much last year I felt the burnout and need some time to get the mojo back? I don't know, but currently I've slipped into the old bad habit of buying much and not painting anything. Keep your fingers crossed that I'll manage to get back to painting again as I have so many fun projects lined up!

Assembled (18):

  • 6 Malstrain Genestealers
  • 4 Malstrain Tyramites
  • 8 Brood Scum

Printed (23):

  • 7 Cryx Dark Operations models (Warmachine)
  • 5 Punishers (Broken People)
  • 1 Johan Sins Betrayal Apostol (Broken People)
  • 10 Corrupted Guard Spikers (Station Forge)

Bought (85):

  • Shadowhunt - 16 models
  • Battleforce: Lords of Excess - 33 models
  • Battleforce: Red Corsairs - 36 models

So many new models bought! And all of them in power armour!

I have also been planning out a short post about the new system I implemented towards the end of last year (in October to be exact), but I'm reworking how I should approach that system and will probably just throw in all the ideas I have and hope that someone finds it useful.

Hobby Summary: January 2026

Unfortunately I don't have much to report for January. I managed to paint only 4 miniatures (orc boyz for WFB/TOW), as I was occupied with university and work stuff. I have some exams to retake in February, so this month might not be much better. I have bought or receive 40 miniatures (BattleTech: Alpha Strike, Siege Assault Battle Group, Malstrain Alpha, Traitor Overseer and Herald Consuls and a Loyalist Champion Consul). No games played and no achievements unlocked. Keep your fingers crossed that February will be better despite all the academic things I must do!

PS. I have managed to assemble the 6 Hangers-on for Necromunda!

Hobby Summary: December 2025

In hobby terms, December was definitely my worst month of 2025. I have painted only 4 models (and by doing so finishd the Hierotek Circle) and bought or receved 64 (Ferren Areios, Prussian Strosstruppen, Underhive Hangers-on and Warhammer Quest: Darkwater). With so little to write, I dont't see the need to use the format I  had for the entirety of the year. Also, the only achievement for the month is "Painted a unit (Kill Team).

I plan to write a summary of the year this week, so see you then! Happy New Year!

Finished: Hierotek Circle

December passes in a bit of rush and I have a lot of stuff to attend to, but I have finally managed to finish this Kill Team. I have assembled the models as soon as I got the box (It was 2022 or early 2023 I think), but they have waited for me to establish the colours for my Dynasty, and here we have it! Even though it's not visible on the photo, the construct on which the Crypted rides lost one leg as some point and I have not yet find it. I have one place lef to change and if I don't find it there, I'll search for some printable replacement or leave it as "battle damage". Either way, I'm happy with how the models turned out. The ruddy terracotta effect was achieved following a tutorial from Mediocre Hobbies.

The Scheme

  1. Black primer
  2. Leadbelcher drybrush all over
  3. Grey Seer on the elements that will be "terracotta"
  4. Gore-grunta Fur on the terracotta elements
  5. Ryza Rust heavy drybrush on the terracotta elements
  6. Ivory light drybrush on the terracotta elements
  7. Black Legion on the weapons
  8. Basilicanum Grey oin the "internal" skeleton elements
  9. Runefang Steel drybrush on all the metal elements
  10. Black on the melee energy weapons
  11. White drybrush on the energy weapons, white on all the elements that will be green
  12. Shamrock Green on the glowing green bits and melee energy weapons
  13. Gunner Camo on the crystals
  14. Runelord Brass on all the dynasty symbols and every bit that is supposed to be an ornament
  15. Strong Tone on the brass elements

Hobby Summary: November 2025

This month the summary comes with quite a big delay. I had quite a lot stuff to attend to, so we end up with a November summary that is late by around 6 days. Could be worse, especially that November itself was quite a good month in terms of hobby related stuff, meaning that I have painted quite a lot of miniatures, including finally some big beasties! I have also made an Instragram account as a place to post photos of miniatures (including WIPs) and possibly to get to more people!

Finished: Screamer-Killer

The Screamer-Killer landed on my painting desk (and I just noticed that I gave him the wrong background... well, it is what it is, I guess). It's one of the big beasties in the Leviathan box and the penultimate left for me to paint. Great, characterful model, a little bit funny as with the carapace placed on his head he looks bald. I used the same scheme as for my other tyranid models, available here.

Wednesday, 26 November 2025

Finished: Death Commando

Another addition to my Heretic Legions warband. I decided that units I see as elite will not have corroded armour, so no rust on this guy!

The Scheme

  1. Slapchop underpainting
  2. Heavy Metal on the armour and claws
  3. Runelord Brass on some embellishments on the armour
  4. Steel on the chainmail
  5. Shamrock Green on the vials and tubes
  6. Grey Seer on the flesh
  7. Targor Rageshade on the flesh

Tuesday, 25 November 2025

Finished: Sha'dar Hunters and Arthromite Spinewyrms

After a very long break from Necromunda models I painted a set of melee specialists for the Ash Waste Nomads and their pets. I really like the sculpts and the fact that the parts go together far better than the box for the core "gang".

The scheme is mostly the same as for my other Nomad miniatures. I decided to use pink underpainting for the orange masks and I think it works quite well with Nuclear Orange. The new colours used were Ruddy Fur on the bug carapace armour on each warrior, Shamrock Green for the poison globes and Gore-grunta Furs for the leather straps. As for the spinewyrms, they were slapchopped, and then I used Dusk Red on the carapace, Bony Matter on the "underbelly", Sceleton Horde on the skulls on two of the bases, Basilicanym Grey on the rocks, Ratling Grime on the legs and Ahriman Blue on the eyes.

  2. Ryza Rust stippling on the armour
  3. Leadbelcher drybrush on the armour and teeth

  5. Gulliman Flesh on the flesh
  6. Ratling Grime on the fur
  7. Black Templar on the claws and tubes
  8. Skeleton Horde on the spine
  9. Blood for the Blood God on the "snout"
  10. Leadbelcher + Strong Tone on the construction element
  11. Basilicanum Grey on the stones
  12. Skeleton Horde for the skulls

Finished: Savage Orcs/Savage Orruks

One of the projects started in Orctober 2025, a 20 orc strong unit of dual-wielding savage orcs, bought when I learned that they are removing them from AoS and I knew I wanted them for The Old World.

Quite nice to build, many options for different heads and weapons, poses more dynamic than the older sculpts.

  4. Gore-grunta Fur for the leather elements, straps and furs

  11. Mephiston Red for the eyes
  12. Base: A mixture of electrostatic grass and old "basing materials"

Finished: Chorister

Small reinforcement for my Trench Crusade has arrived. This model is the Chorister for Heretic Legions.

The Scheme

  1. Slapchop underpainting
  2. Occultist Cloak for the robe
  3. Skeleton Horde for the ropes and straps

Finished: Tau Pathfinder Kill Team from Chalnath

Today marks a big milestone for me, as I managed to finish another Kill Team. As you can see it's the Tau Pathfonders from the second box to come out for the previous edition of Kill Team. I decided to go for a Farsight Enclaves scheme, as it was the one that I liked most.

The models themselve were assembled a long time ago. I recall that I didn't like how the listening devices attached to their heads, the point of contact was really small and bad and I had to glue more than one back after they just popped off randomly.

The scheme:

  1. Slapchop underpainting
  2. Flesh Tearrs red for the armour and red parts of the weapons
  3. Grim Black for the undersuit and the black parts of the weapons
  4. Space Wolves Grey on the skin
  5. Ratling Grime on the "hooves"
  6. White on all the parts that will be green
  7. Black Tone panel lining on the red elements
  8. Shamrock Green on all the lenses and blinking, technoloqical devices
  9. Balthazar Gold on the golden elements
  10. Leadbelcher on the silver elements
  11. Black Tone on the silver elements
  12. Reikland Fleshshade on the golden elements
  13. Bases: AK Fireland, Light Tone wash, Ryza Rust drybrush, Gamers Grass Alien Neon 4mm

Finished: Grinkrak's Looncourt

I have finished painting this band for Underworlds that I have actually bought to play Warcry. A very cool little project that enabled me to test out a bunch of stuff for any AoS goblins/grots that I'd like to paint in the future! They are "easy to build" miniatures that come in green plastic and sculpted bases. This is also the first time I used pink as a basecoat for yellow transparent paint and I'm in love!

The Scheme

  1. Black Primer
  2. Grey part of slapchop
  3. Squid Pink on elements that will be yellow or orange (2 or 3 thin coats should do the job)
  4. White drybrush
  5. Forest Sprite on the skin
  6. Dreadnought Yellow on yellow elements
  7. Turnbull Turquise on the remaining parts of the robes
  8. Chameleon Orange on the squigs
  9. Skeleton Horde on ropes and teeth
  10. Wyldwood on the wood
  11. Snakebite Leather on leather elements
  12. Blood Angels Red on the shields, moons and mushrooms
  13. Satchel Brown on the pouches
  14. 1:1:1 Burnt Moss, Occultist Cloak, Desolate Brown on the base
  15. Iron Warriors i Runelord Brass on the metallic elements
  16. Dark Tone on the metallic elements

Finished: Psychophage from Leviathan

I managed to finish the Psychophage from the Leviathan starter set! Such a big monster! Lovely sculpt full of wonderful detail.

The scheme is basically the same as usual (and I'm really happy that my scheme transfers so well from the small tyranids to thoe big bioforms!). I changed Ushabti Bone for Ivory as I believe my pot of Ushabti bone is going bad. I used Flesh Tearers red on the space marine armour and some Blood for the Blood God on the torn pieces.

Painted: 3 Test Hormax

Recently a friend lent me 3 colorshift paints by GSW, namely Darth Blue, Evil Forest and Borealis Green, to test on some The Makers Cult models I printed. A while ago I decided that I wanted my Iron Hive models to have opalescent armour plates, so the only thing left was to find the hue that I liked most. The schemes above are almost the same in terms of colours used, with the only difference being the shifter paint used. I decided to buy the same set (which contains 3 more paints), and the other ones plus probably more from other companies, to have options for various future projects. From those three I like Borealis Green most (even though I don't think I would use it for my Iron Hive).

The schemes:

  • Black primer
  • White drybrish to better see the details
  • Grey Seer on the flesh
  • Black on the armour plates
  • Gloss Varnish on the armour plates
  • Darth Blue (left) - one coat/ Evil Forest (middle) - 2 coats with airbrush and 3 with brush/ Borealis Green (right) - 2 coats on the armour plates
  • True Brass on the armour trim
  • Runelord Brass on some details
  • Heavy Metal on the weapons and spine
  • Steel on the rest of the metal bits
  • Grimdark Shadow on the metal elemenents
  • (optional) Stormhost Silver drybrush over the metal elements

So, Orctober ended and I still have some projects that are not finished! In the picture above you can see some normal Orc Boyz, Savage Orc Boyz (or Orruk Boyz or whatever they were called in AoS, I bought the box when I learned they were to be removed from retail) and 4 of the 7 models in Grinkrak's Looncourt. I hope to finish them (or at least most of them) in November, but I will still tag them as Orctober 2025.

Thursday, 23 October 2025

Finished: Killabos on Great Gnashtoof from Domionion

The centrepiece for the Kruleboyz side of the Dominion box landed upon my painting table. The design of this model is awesome. A terryfing boss on a doglike creature charging across a swampy marshland. It is also the last model for the Orruk Warclans Spearhead, which means that I finally have a finished, fully painted force to play this mode!

As for the paint scheme, it mostly follows the steps for my regular Gutrippaz and the recent Murknob. The new paints here are Ruddy Fur for the body of the gnashtoof, Tainted Gold for the ornamentation on the ruin it is traversing and Guilliman Flesh followed by Reikland Fleshshade on the banner attached to the back of the miniature.
